No need to describe your post or play mini-mini-mod

Get one from Wal-Mart or Target. Mine has a sliding keyboard tray, one drawer and a spot for a mini-tower, all for 50 bucks. Not too bad.

If that's too steep, you could get one of those folding banquet tables. (NOT a card table, one of the longer tables)

If you want one that's made out of real wood, you will have to go to a furniture store (besides IKEA), or you could check the Thrift Store / Yard Sales / Flea Market / The Mall of Loathing, what have you.

I built mine with my dad. It's pretty rad; has two bookshelfs on either side, a plexiglass top, and fits nicely in the corner. Corner Desks FTW.

For cost it was around $30 or less.

i don't like most pre-built computer desks. you could go to a garage sale and get a cheap desk or build one yourself and make it however you want.

Actually those banquet tables work quite well, although it takes two of 'em to hold all computing the crap I've acquired, looks like mission control with all the monitors.

Another VERY useful and insightful post by atari2600a!!!

All useless posts aside, I'd say grab one from a flea market cheap. Call me crazy, I'd try a junkyard. You'd be surprised what people trash! :D

In my old house, we used to have a PC in the garage for when freinds cam over. The monitor sat on the workbench, the box was on the kegerator, the seriall mouse and ps1 packard hell keyboard were in front of the monitor, the stereo sound came out of a single box with two speakers on either side unter the monitor, and you sat on an old barstool to play. There was a small electric heater set on the ground a couple feet away to keep your feet warm while you played in the winter.

Oh, and I suggest Ikea. Some of the best engineering, even though it's all particle board.

Can't you always find these things on the front lawn of peoples' houses for the awesome price of free?

I would suggest building one out of junk. Get some junked folding tables (preferably with bad legs!) and remove the whole leg assemblies (including the metal thing that runs about 2 inches inside the perimeter). Cut them to whatever size you need, then use a few filing cabinets to support them. If you want, you could even countersink some bolts in the tops to hold them to the cabinets.

If I had the time, willpower and money, I'd build a room that was 6.5' x 6.5' x 6.5' and had desk space on every wall (all the way across). I'd either come in through the ceiling, or have a place that was just moveable counter, no cabinets (then have a door beyond it).

Edit: after reading, I realized that I didn't clarify "folding tables". I don't mean card tables; I mean those 6' or 8' long tables made out of…well something akin to MDF (but seemingly much stronger). They're kind of heavy, but filing cabinets will support them and a computer easily enough.

The kinds that you see used at garage sales and bingo halls? Yeah, those things are pretty heavy duty. Although, if I was putting this amount of time and effort into it I would probably use decent wood. Nothing glamorous, but something that has a grain.
