You could always unscrew the door to get in :P or you could leave 2 small holes so if the battery dies then you can hook up a 9v or a 12v battery from outside to let u scan into the room.

It does seem like a waste of evergy building it when u can buy it i know building is more fun but in this case i think buying it would be a better option.

What some of the commercial systems have (which may be hard to DIY) is that the RF releases a catch on the doorframe (I think it's called the striker?), allowing the door to open even though the lock bolt is still extended. This lets you have a keylock as a backup.
