internet dad and a 2 year GCSE course at school

but most of what you need you can learn from just buying a introduction to electronics book

my teacher was the absolutly terrible he knew nothing, i took to just reading the book at the back of the class and ended up learning more while he was busy failing the rest of the class

So read through some school text books, ask to borrow some from your school D&T department

I grew up reading electronics magazines like Electronics Now, Popular Electronics, Radio Electronics, ect... unfortunately, Greensback Publishing, which put out all of those went under around 2000, so they aren't published anymore. A few from other publishers have come forth since, but nowhere near as pervasive as Greensback magazines were (sold in walmart even).

In one issue they even show you how to build your own digital scope, from a bag full of LEDs, and some very simple logic chips (which Ratshack still sold at the time). It pisses me off to no end that i can't find that issue in my collection... (ofcourse most of my collection was lost last time i moved, so it's probably somewhere between Texas and Virginia...)

Definitely check out your local library for books on electronics. You'd be surprised how many books they will have. If you're too lazy to do that, as people have said, just use Google. Those two resources are how I learned all I know
