Audacity can do that and so much more...

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

You'll need to get the MP3 encoding .DLL from another package, but it's really straightfoward. Check out some of the other plug-in effects, like a wah-wah pedal, record player getting unplugged, and one of my favorites, the center pan remover!

you can still save as a .wav without the .dll :)

Select the part you want to cut out, copy it, make a new document, and paste.

Audacity is actually pretty easy to use after you get the hang of it. Just make a copy of a music file on your computer and play around and experiment on it. The worst thing that can happen is you save over the file, and since it's a copy anyways waht difference does it make?

If you want difficult check out SoundEdit for the mac! It was like this, but worse. MUCH worse. But what do you expect from a program that was written almost 20 years ago? :P

You don't need the MP3 DLL, you can still export as ogg vorbis and WAV. However people don't use Vorbis much (sadly), and WAV files of extended length are huge. Just copy the LAME MP3 encoder DLL into the Audacity program folder and you're good to go.

Hey Bicostp, little off topic, but relating to the comment about 20 years ago on a mac... Your "location" is awesome lol. Only the Mac nerds get it, it's so great!
