As far as I've seen there aren't many mobo's that support dual processors and SLI, though there are two on newegg last time I checked...Krepticor wrote:I'm looking to assemble my own computer later Can anyone point me in the direction of a very goo mobo that supports SLI, dual dual core processors, plently of PCI slots and works very well for an overclock...I'm just trying to get informed right now
oh yea AMD preferably

There might be others, but those are the couple dual core socket 940 opteron mobo's with sli capibilities that I know of.
Wow! You've all got great computers. Mine sucks though... It's a Toshiba laptop but it is really old.
450Mhz AMD K6-2 Mobile
32Mb ram (...)
etc (other crap)
My brother has this awesome IBM thinkpad worth over 2000$ (it can run hl 2 highest res etc...)
He got it from my mom for his studies (errm read games, mostly WoW), he quit his studies after like a month or so though...
Other than that I've got a pretty good pc upstairs running at about 1,5Ghz

Umm... Socket 940 is mainly for servers (Opteron chips).xelion wrote:As far as I've seen there aren't many mobo's that support dual processors and SLI, though there are two on newegg last time I checked...Krepticor wrote:I'm looking to assemble my own computer later Can anyone point me in the direction of a very goo mobo that supports SLI, dual dual core processors, plently of PCI slots and works very well for an overclock...I'm just trying to get informed right now

There are tons of SLI & Dual-Core capable 939 (A64's, X2's, FX' and 939 Opterons) motherboards.
Since you're planning on overclocking I'd strongly reccomend this board:

what is the main comparitive power differences between having an overclocked 64-FX and possibly overclocking two OPTETRONs...
I mean I thought that having theentire power of a small scale server would be incredibly kick-arse if it was focused for one user
Of course I really do not plan to assemble my futire machine of ultimate destruction until I have the ability to get broadband...yes I have been doing all this on a 56 I don't have XBOX liveor PS2 online...my life sucks
Oh well thanks (I hope broadband will come here within the next year)

I'd say opt for the opterons, they're really mad overclockers. Don't go thinking they're mircale chips though, they're still just regular desktop processors (the 939's atleast, dunno about the 940 opterons, would think the same).Krepticor wrote:what is the main comparitive power differences between having an overclocked 64-FX and possibly overclocking two OPTETRONs...

Oh ya, price: $2200 including 19 inch gaming LCD and $100 printer.
Those guys at www.ibuypower.com are dumb though. When I got it the hard drive cables were unplugged, and the power supply to the disc drive.

Yea i live in a town that was created due to the construction of a government facility It has a population of about 250 mabye 300 Most are retired and about to rollover and die..I know it sounds harsh but that is the god-honest truth I figure the property value will go up after that because there might be a resurgance of jobs...if not the place will become even more of a ghost towndman762000 wrote:Krepticor wrote:

I have:
Sempron 64 3100+
2x 160GB Sata in Raid 0
1GB PC4400 DDR
Radeon X1800XT 256MB
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Combo Drive
Tforce6100 micro-ATX motherboard, with the works
All running on a dinky 270 watt power supply. I hate having a PC that makes noise, so I need to come up with a way quite down that X1800XT, which is the loudest thing in my case by far...
Anyway, Athlon64's are geared towards consumer use and gaming. Opterons are geared towards server applications. Some google searches indicated that the gaming cpu performed better during gaming than the non-gaming cpu (go figure). So, I guess you'd need to make a choice based on that.
I had a 3800+ X2, but it was noisy, and it just didn't offer the level of multitasking performance everyone was screaming about. I'm happy with my Sempron.
