N64 T.V. remote

Post by Shadeslayer » Tue Sep 06, 2005 2:07 pm

Hey I was looking at the belt buckle out of the NES controller and was thinking...what about taking a N64 Controller and making a tv remote out of it. It would be pretty easy (I think). All you would have to do is change the C buttons to Channel up and down and volume left (down) and right (up). Then you could take out the d-pad and cut a section where to put the #'s. A could be on/off and B could be mute. I dont no what L/R would be but give me some ideas and I might just have to make this. :D

P.S. I come up with the stupidest ideas lol

Sounds like a good idea. I've got a crappy N64 controller that I got as a Christmas gift years ago and I've been wondering what I should do with it...

Start- power
L- Vol. Up
R- Vol. Down
Z- Mute

D-pad
-------
Up- Ch. up
Down- Ch. down
Left- Ch. Recall
Right- Input Select (Game, whatever selects the AV input)

Rip out the yello wbuttons and put in a hacked pocket calculator number pad in there

Not sure what to do with the c-stick...

Great idea! You could empty out a memory pack and put batterys in it! Ah the ideas!
If I were to make one I would replace the A-stick with the # pad since there is nothing you can do with the stick.

I jsut got an old cell phone so I might be able top use the # pad from that.

I think using a power joy case would be nicer :P
It's a lot like the superjoy, but has a built in light gun.

hmmm wire the trigger to the 'mute' or 'power' button and open fire...

it's already got a hole for the led and a battery pack

I saw a GE universal remote at Joblot a few weeks ago, look there, maybe they'll have a good one.

Just checked and 2 AAA's will fit in the Memory Pack case. I have an RCA remote that I think is universal.
Thing is, I have DISH network, so unless I hack an official DISH remote I won't be able to use it for anything other than the TV :( Eh, it will still be fun :)

I'll bet you can buy one though. As for the analog stick, if you use an unofficial one, you'll be able to use it for 4 features too. Also, I suggest making A and B the flashback and PIP buttons, they don't seem to have anything else. As for the Cs (or the D-pad, or unofficial analog stick), some remotes use the four channel/volume buttons as a D-pad for navigation so just assign them accordingly, channel are usually the vertically mounted. Dunno what you should do about the ones, if your remote has a navigation section, that could go to the analog stick. Start would obviously be power, great idea, and another thing: you could use a rumble pak for batteries instead of a memory card! I think it already has built-in spaces anyway. Hmm, that leaves channel selections (plus whatever directional controls you have left). If you don't have a navigation tool on your remote, you should have 11 buttons left (L, Z, R, D-pad/analog stick/C buttons) which can be used accordingly.

Heh, you're right, the rumble pack does have a 2 AAA holder built into it. Finally, a use for those dumb things. Good idea. I could even make one of the buttons activate the rumble. Er... or not
They do sell dish remotes at Radio Shack but they are in the area of $20-$30. Perhaps ebay might have some cheap pirate ones...
