Pick a system that you feel you can do. Are you knowledgable in technology incl motherboards, soldering, etc? How old are you? Have you soldered before? How much money and time can you spend on this? Do you have the systems? etc. We need to know these things, hard to decide/comment if you don't tell us.

Re: What game system should i start portabilizing?
Dreamcast and N64 are pretty fiddly to work with. The Dreamcast needs a bunch of funny voltages, and N64s die if you so much as look at them the wrong way.
It all depends on how much money you're willing to put into it (budget for at least 2 consoles, just to be safe), and how comfortable you are with soldering. (Newer systems are all tiny surface mount components, which are buggers to solder to with a Rat Shack iron, especially if you're inexperienced.)

Re: What game system should i start portabilizing?
For some reason this question seems to appear every 2 weeks or so.
Here's my suggestion... pick a system you really like... an N64, dreamcast, dreamcast of N64, whatever.
Read the forums, check out other modder's worklogs, gather enough tools to get started.
Start tearing the system apart. Start making a case. Start trying to connect everything together.
If you have questions post pictures of what you have done and be specific about the problem(s) you are having.
People here will help you.
To be honest your first portable probably won't be the greatest, but prove me wrong.
Everybody started somewhere. If you have the time, money, and patience you can make a portable.
If you fail big time you can always buy a psp.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: What game system should i start portabilizing?
Please only make one topic instead of three asking the same thing. All it will get you is the same information three times.
We aren't going to tell you what you can or can't build. The reason we say to start small is to save you some money (because you'll likely break something) and let you get your feet wet without being drowned by too much. Where you already have some experience, you may be able to start with a N64p, but I would wait for a DCp unless you're sure or your skills. Pretty much, if you need someone to hold your hand through the whole process, you should start smaller.

Re: What game system should i start portabilizing?
And since you're using yourself as an example. You joined 5 months ago, picked one of the harder portables to build and still have no portable made.Raizer04 wrote:BEHOLD MY ENTRY,
See i disagree, i say if you want to build a portable do it, i came here asking "what was the one portable that is hardly seen made" so i decided to attack a ps2 portable with a twist. I say if you want to make a system then read, learn and experience. Dont focus on any negative comments ppl make at all in your experience while making this and raise the bar!! 9 times outta 10 ppl here will answer your questions with ease and a quickness. One important aspect is the planning stage. Plan out what case you want to use, plan out where you want ever little detail down to the exact measurement. And of course...always remember that Google is your friend.

If you had tried a Noac first you would most likely be done with it and the PS2 would be much easier.

Re: What game system should i start portabilizing?
Yes I know that. But the facts I pointed out show that you have no authority to come in and tell people they can build any portable they want no matter how hard it is and don't listen to what people tell them because you did it. When you haven't done it.Raizer04 wrote:and have no problem wit...im in no rush.
With no prior experience a beginner should start with an easy project and build up skills and see if he is even capable of doing it before he waste a lot of time and money on something he may not be able to do.
Simple facts.

Re: What game system should i start portabilizing?
That's not true either. I couldn't build a proton accelerator if I tried for 50 years.Raizer04 wrote:Not trying to argue here, all im saying is anyone can do anything as long as they put their mind to it.
It's best if people do things that are on their skill level then try to work their way up. That way they accomplish things. It gives them satisfaction and they don't feel like failures. I mean how do you think people feel if they come here and try to build a hard portable and fail. Like a failure of course.
Like I get a bunch of request to put a new Lcd in a Sega Gamegear. But it would involve building a complex Rgb decoder and rgb to composite circuit. And I just can't do it without someone designing it for me. So I just say no and stick to what I'm good at. And as I get better I might try it .
Not trying to give you a hard time , just trying to set things in perspective.
