Tough Love (In Gaming)

Post by CronoTriggerfan » Sun Oct 19, 2008 3:02 pm

As I was playing MM9 today (which is still kicking my ass) I got to thinking about certain games over the years that I've loved that either

a) I sucked at
b) were ridiculously hard, or
c) a combination of the two.

Most of the time b is a product of a, but in the case of MegaMan 9, it's just genuinely hard. So, have there ever been any games that just annihilate you, but you keep playing more? All the MegaMans fall in this category for me, as do most 2D shooters. Oddly enough, Street Fighter does, too. It's a lot of fun, but I'm horrible at all of 'em. I don't even know how to do any of the combo moves when your gauge fills up!

I suck at every damn game I pick up. I've never beat a video game. I still like to play them, though.
This post brought to you by David Duchovny's glorious nipples.

Lol I know every one of them till they get like this.
Infinites
ROM

c.hp, sj.hk, addf.lk, ad.lk, land, [sj.lk, sj.lk addf, ad.lk, ad.lk, land] - repeat in brackets.

Variants - replace the bracket section with any of the following:

[sj.lk ad df lk lk] [sj.lp ad df lk lk] [sj lp lk ad df lk lk] [sj. lp lp ad df lk lk]

Not specific reasoning other than letting someone drop/raise and for show.

The ROM is basis for Magneto play once you reach at least an intermediate level. The majority of your time playing, you'll be trying to set this up, one way or another. Add pauses inbetween after the second sj.lk when you get to the brackets, and then another between the third and fourth sj.lk's as needed to keep your opponent at a good height.

But that leads to stuff like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGmA2ZnDtL8

It is not junk! It is assorted goods with no current use.

I'm assuming you're referring to Street Fighter III? I found that the joystick is much better for the super special moves while the D-pad is better when not performing one of 'em.

I suck at most games, and in fact don't beat many.

:(
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Super Mario Forever was pretty hard.

I eventually finished the first level after ages of obsessing over the game and then decided to simply save state for when I got past a landmark nigh immpossible jump.

ah, yes. Mario Forever. That was a lot of fun, though.

When I was like 7 and played LoZ: OoT I thought it was really hard and I gave up at the Water Temple.

I still think it's tough but I have beaten it a few times (I don't usually replay any games once I beat them)

I had that for the Genesis. I always lost because I ran out of air.

I was very little back then, though...
