Luckily, I haven't run into this problem yet. All my friends that I've shown have been very supportive and enthusiastic. I'm sure when I showcase my SNESp at school (since it was a school project), I'll get comments like that. However, screw them I say. Let them be ignorant, and just have self-satisfaction.

Oh god, don't get me started about this. I love my NES, SNES, N64... all the old stuff! I wish I had an Atari! I'm happy I have a MAME though. A MAME with no new games!
And it's not just with old stuff! I bring my DS to school everyday and people tell me, "Why didn't you get a PSP?" Or "The DS is gay." I HATE when people call video game consoles gay. Hate it hate it. I bet if I ever finish my NESp, I'll play it more than my DS or anything else!
OOH! Here's something to think about:
When I was little, I didn't have any video games. I went over to my cousins house to play Super Nintendo. I thought it was great! And N64 was out at the time, too! Then I got my N64, which was like god it was so good! I thought the graphics were amazing! I loved Mariokart, and super smash bros! Everything! Then I got a Game cube, which was, in my eyes, completely photorealistic!
My little cousin, who is 7 right now, got a gamecube as his first console. Then sold it less than a year later for a PS2. I say, kids should start out with the old stuff, not the new stuff.
Which is why I hosted a party at my pool club called "Retro Game Night" We had a huge projector and you know what we played? N64. We hade a Mariokart tournament. Even litle kids played. On a smaller TV off to the side we had NES and SNES. The little kids loved mario bros and duck hunt! It made me so happy to see little kids playing NES. It brought tears to my eyes.

honestly, I think we don't.
I love all games, but old games are just so great....I barely play any commercial games on my PSP...too busy playing Contra and Chrono Trigger, along with tons of other old school games .
hell, I wasn't even a huge gamer back in the days of Genesis and SNES, but man do I have fond memories of them. I owned a Genesis, and not a SNES, but my friend had a SNES so I would always go to his house to play (right across the street ). today it's really the quality of games that bring me back. the nostalgia obviously plays a big part, but if the games were bad, why would we be playing them still?

Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!
