RGB connection

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

RGB connection

Post by GeckoLink » Mon Aug 09, 2010 8:28 am

I have found that a LCD (toshiba TFD40W11)that I have takes RGB input and my ps1 also takes RGB. Since they both use RGB can I connect them?

If the screen can take composite, and also has rgb inputs then it should work.

the pinout says that it cant take composite would it go by a different name? By the way these the pinouts.

LCD:
[in] logic power (5V)
> 2[in] horiz sync input
> 3[in] vert sync input
> 4[out] signal voltage / phase inversion control out
> 5[in] ground Vss (0V)
> 6[in] R video
> 7[in] G video
> 8[in] B video
> 9[in] common voltage input
> 10[in] Vbb (13V)
> 11[in] Vgg (25V)
> 12[out] common voltage / phase inversion control output
> 13[in] Vss (0V)
> 14[in] NTSC/PAL selection
> 15 NC
> 16 NC

PS1:

1 Ground
2 Right Audio
3 Ground
4 Left Audio
5 S-Video Y
6 NTSC Video/Composite Sync
7 S-Video C
8 Video Ground
9 Blue
10 +5 Volt
11 Red
12 Green

Yeah it looks like it can take rgb, though there's no combined sync input, so you'd need to use a sync separator like an LM1881 to get separate vsync and hsync, unless the display can handle csync on both pins.

Connect pin 6 on the ps1 to pin 2 and 3 on the screen.

Try it without connecting those pins first. I think some screens don't require sync connected.
