This is the other one they carry for $50 shipped :
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.20415" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Overall I am pretty impressed with it. The resolution is nice , same as the Psone screen. And brightness levels are just about perfect.
I have run it off of 4.5v just fine , so that is a major plus.
Also at 7.5v it draws around 90mA...
It is a very small monitor measuring 2.5" x 3.0" x 3/8" This is the overall dimensions for the screen and board together.
A pic of the screen together with the board
This screen is sorta neat in that it gives you an ffc extension. So technically you could move the screeen a good 5"-6" from the board.
And here is a pic of how it looks :
Pros:
1.The resolution is the same as the Psone screen which looks good.
2. Very small board and screen combo, less than 3/8" thich together.
3. Runs off Voltages as low as 4.5v and only 90mA.
4. Has an ffc extension included for an option of moving the lcd farther fron the board.
Cons:
1.No brightness or contrast control.
2.No audio.
Not bad for a 3.5" screen for $50

Wow 90mA? Are you sure? Is that with the stock back light and no other modifications?

I have checked it 5 times. Checked it with my amp meter.Erlex wrote:Wow 90mA? Are you sure? Is that with the stock back light and no other modifications?
At 4.5v it draws around 122mA
At 7.5v it draws around 88mA
At 12 v it draws around 71mA
This is with stock everything. I'm pretty sure it uses led backlighting.

Nice screen, picture looks great. Would anyone know if there is a PAL version available?
You could probably adjust the contrast by looking at the datasheet for the controller chip (if there is one), as it looks like it is pre-set with resistors. Also its likely that the chip has RGB inputs. Just a thought.

Is there any possible way to get audio separate from the screen? (I know, its a little noobish of me)hailrazer wrote: 2.No audio.

Make an audio amp or something like that. Wire the audio to some sort of amp, and wire that onto a speaker.Tchay wrote:Is there any possible way to get audio separate from the screen? (I know, its a little noobish of me)hailrazer wrote: 2.No audio.
I don't know the specifics, I'd ask an experienced portablizer.

Yep, just wire up an easy audio amp like a LM386. Also, hip gear screens (those controllers with screens attached) come with pretty good audio amps.Tchay wrote:Is there any possible way to get audio separate from the screen? (I know, its a little noobish of me)hailrazer wrote: 2.No audio.
If you're getting 404'd when trying to use the links in stickies, try this tutorial to find that juicy info.

Yeah that screen will work but you may have to build an audio amp because it has no amp built in.

Also, you can buy pre-made audio amplifier modules. Check out:
http://www.electronics123.com/s.nl/sc.8/category.33/.f
Great selection of mono and stereo varities for under $20 shipped
I'm sure it's cheaper to build one yourself but I lack the patience for that...
