screen sizes

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

screen sizes

Post by bluej774 » Sun Oct 05, 2008 1:48 pm

Hi. I'm doing my first portable work and I'm attempting a portable NOAC. My problem is finding the right size screen. I was originally going to try to stick it in a game boy case, but all the screens I could find were smaller than the gameboy screen, so that wouldn't look very nice. Also, could you even tell what's going on in an NES game on a 2.6" screen? While looking around online, it seems like there's a gap in screen sizes. It jumps from about 2.3" to 7". I'm looking for an ideal size of screen between 3.5" and 4.5". Anyone know if such screens exist and, if so, it would be worth it to play an NES game on that size screen? Thanks.

Clicky clicky

AEI Components are good, Ben uses them for his portables. They're not exactly cheap, but they do lots of sizes and specifications, run off 12V and require very little hacking. The LED backlit 3.5" screen is $104, the 4" one goes for $198. Hope that's helpful :)

Although those lcds are out of my price range, that was actually very helpful. Thank you.

I think people have had good results with this screen:
