Looking for mini-screen

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Looking for mini-screen

Post by miniscreen » Sun Jul 20, 2008 8:31 am

Hi everybody,
As i am new to this forum, i hope you don't mind me abusing it for a special project that is a little out of this site's league, but still has a lot in common with console hacking.

I am trying to hook up a mini-camera to a small LCD screen (something like 1.5" ) This is to be used as a small surveillance system. I intend to use a small CMOS camera (example) that has a composite video output. For this to work i will need a small display that accepts analog signals. I have looked at the small keychain digital picture frames, Like this, but the ones i found don't have analog inputs, or video inputs at all. does anyone know of small screens that i could use for this project, or perhaps another work around for this problem?

That is a nifty little idea. I don't know where you would be able to find a screen that tiny with a composite input, but you could always rig it to accept the input of your choice.

Take the composite output from your camera, run it through a video decoder (http://marvel.sourceforge.net/pdfs/DS_KS0127B.PDF <-- I've got 5 of these), and hard wire the digital output to the input of your little screen. You'd need a microcontroller or FPGA to control the timing issues and to program the video decoder, but it's possible.

The only thing is, you would be tied to the wire. You should see if you can make this camera send wireless signals to your screen so you would be free to move around while you spy.
