GCP Motherboards not working after minimalist trims?!

Post by OSmightymanOS » Tue Jan 08, 2013 12:03 pm

Right! Three GCP motherboards all in working condition. I decided to give them a small trim along the golden strips. None of them are working properly anymore and the LED on the controller port turns on then straight off. I'm not really sure what to think... They are all dol-01 boards but i'm not sure if that has anything to do with trimming the golden strip or not. I have trimmed it in the past on another boards successfully but these last three times it just doesn't want to work :/ the only thing I can think of would be that in trimming the golden strips that I have broken a circuit or connected to circuits somehow, but I thought there are supposed to be no traces in the golden strip!

Really appreciate any help and if anyone wants anymore pictures I will upload some more
Thanks!

Eh, what the hell did you cut them with? Tin snips??

The inner layers of the motherboards are likely bridging with the outter layers. You need to sand all the edges of those boards till they work again.

Oh... Thank you very much! Funnily enough... I did happen to use tin snips... But it worked in the past for me! I'll attack them with my dremel sometime today and get back to you :D many thanks!

Managed to get one of them working :) Haven't tried the second one due to one of the smaller transistors breaking off in my rage and therefore I don't reckon it's worth the time. as for the third one, it's LED no longer turns on so I fear it may be dead... Haven't really had the chance to test properly though. Just wanted to say thanks :D
