Second attempt at a ps2 laptop

Okay! I'm planning this now. lol.

I am going to use one of those laptop monitor adapter kits on ebay, more specifically, this one:

They said they would program it, since it is in their list of compatible lcd's. And package the required back light driver/buttons.

I found one of these battery packs:

Does anyone have experience with these?

And finally, two suitable dc-dc buck boost psu's to run the ps2 and monitor system respectively.

The only bit I'm now struggling with, provided they all work, is making a case. Does anyone have any recommendations?

PS2 does not have a simple Composite to VGA cable. You will need to run some kind of Composite to VGA converter box. There might be some VGA mod but I do not know about it. You are better of finding a regular screen that takes composite in. Do NOT get that battery. I bought the same one only at little lesser capacity and the ACTUAL capacity was 4 x LESS than specified. Figured the battery was too good to be true.

As for the vga, that board has composite and s-video in as well.

Yep, you are right. It looks like it has audio in and speaker out too. Maybe it has a build in audio amp too. That would be nice. You can ask them.

Thanks! Also.. holy crap. I really like that site, but everything is incredibly expensive.. Just one small pack from them is more then I'd spend on the whole portable. I'll probably engineer my own at this point, I just didn't want to re-invent a cheap 12v supply if I didn't have to, you know?

I sort of wanted to make this power system behave like a laptop. So, you can plug in a supply, and when its plugged in, it runs off of the supply and charges the battery. I know the circuitry needed, and even looked up a lithium control ic. XD I just didn't really feel like making a whole circuit for it. Is there anything existing that doesn't cost a million dollars?

Everything is expensive, you'll quickly come to realize. Best thing is to get a job, because then you can fund really nice laptop projects. Either that, or have ways to cut costs (visit a computer recycling centre for parts!)

What you can do is buy a component to VGA adapter. Those exist and are somewhat easy to find on eBay.

Yeah, I know they are. I just like to keep them as cheap as possible.

Also, why would I need it if my display driver circuit has composite in?

Just use the composite input then. Simple as that.

Had to switch boards due to a compatability issue. Its a little larger, but on the plus side, has s video and coax inputs. So I'll probably connect the ps2 to it via s-video, as that is a much better way to do so.

But the panel and driver boards are on their way. Hope they come fast!

So the ps2 laptop will have a 15" 4:3 display, running at.. whatever it'll run at. I'm not even going to bother designing a case until I have everything in front of me.

Does anyone have any advice on soldering direct video lines? Or should I just stick with purchased cables?

I've never had luck soldering video lines. If you're not sure, stick with the wires if you've got the space.

Also, I've gotten a controller from that company. It's a great, well built board but expect the full 30 days for shipping. Plus your tracking number might not work, but no fret, it'll come.

And does it operate in a mode that allows it to remember the last input selected?

In fact, if you turn in off if DVI (per sé) then it will turn on in DVI mode.
I got one to run a 17" 1440x900 panel. Works like a charm, and no engrish in the on screen menu.

Ah, 15" of beauty. Now to just wait forever for the driver board.. lol.. In the meantime, I'll probably disassemble my ps2, and get the 12v supplies done.
