My old xbox project is going away
I want to use the 250 GB hdd for something else.
I can't power the xbox on. Is there a way to unlock the drive from a computer? I have the key stored safely away. I was hoping there was a program that could do it instead of xboxhdm (boot disc) I
I have a mac any ideas?

Re: unlock xbox hdd
My xbox has been softmodded. The xbox locks the HDD so it can't be used on a computer. I need to unlock the drive but have to use the xbox to do it. I can't power on the xbox anymore. Is there a program that I can give the key to to unlock the hdd?

Well I guess you do learn something new everyday.
I would have no idea. Given that I didn't even know the Xbox locks the HDD... The best advice I can give you is to grab another Xbox.

Re: unlock xbox hdd
That's not the point.
I want to throw the xbox away but keep the "upgraded" 250 GB HDD that I used and use it as a normal drive.

Ah, I was unclear-
Grab another Xbox, and use that one to "unlock" the HDD.

unlock xbox hdd
That doesn't work because the hdd is locked to the mobo. They're an inseparable pair. If the hdd is unlocked it wont work with the mobo. If it is locked and is in a mismatched Xbox it can't unlock it...

Wow, that really sucks.
Format the drive? External enclosure, disk utility.

Re: unlock xbox hdd
Sorry, sorry.. should have been on here a while ago to answer this.
download a copy of xboxhdm (xbox hard drive manager) and in the readme it should tell you where to place the file eeprom.bin. there is an option (also covered in readme) to unlock the hdd. I think it is unlockhd -e.... can't remember off the top of my head. There is also an option for disablehdd or something like that
the two options do two different things. One unlocks the drive, the other disables the lock. I believe you will want to do both. if you locked the drive with xboxhdm to begin with it should also set a master password of xboxscene or teamassembly as well.
but yeah, the easiest way to unlock the drive is to use xboxhdm.

Re: unlock xbox hdd
Make sure the eeprom file is "eeprom.bin" and not "EEPROM.bin". Xboxhdm doesn't like it to be capitalized. I figured this out after I burned about 3 CDs.

Re: unlock xbox hdd
I would just suck it up and use xboxHDM, but then again, if you don't have a computer suited to that anymore, I can see there being an issue.
Any particular reason you don't want to use the boot disk?
