SS's SLGC Project Announcement!

Post by ShockSlayer » Wed Jun 22, 2011 3:43 am

Sup BH, nice to post back at the motherland, eh?

I've been working on my project here recently, so I figured I'd go ahead and let you all know that I'm making a Gamecube portable sporting the wiikey fusion mod in an SL-68p case! (hence the name SLGC) So yeah, tiny portable, but epic proportions.

If anyone's interested, I experimented today and did a livestream of me working on the gamecube, so if you happen to be interested in watching me work, I'll occasionally be streaming at http://www.livestream.com/shockslayer" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and when I'm live I'll usually have a link at the top of the index at MR. We have subsilver2 like you guys do, so don't be put off by the dark and scary theme. :P

There's also a worklog there, I'm not really all that interested in actively posting one here, but that's because I don't wanna try to keep up with eight different sites' worklogs, that's just too damn much for me to try to keep up with, especially at the end of the day when I'm tired from all the progress and high from all the solder fumes. :P

I will however occasionally check the thread and answer a few questions if I can though, so please for the love of god validate my existence and post!

And yes, Triton, I'm going to give the case a fair amount of effort. :P I don't know how much longer I intend to be doing this whole portable thing, so let's end on a good note, eh?

nice, SS
hope your project goes well :)
also, um do you have any tips that you've discovered in this project useful for building a gcp?

I found that some GC memory cards only need 3.43 on the sense line but some require 5v. :o

nice!
i saw your latest vid on youtube, awesome stuff.
that video will help a lot in gc portablizng :).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qzz-exUQ ... ideo_title" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

a lot of the things you've showed in your vid, are similar to what im doing to my zcp.
um, the dd connector from the gc mobo has 32 wires in total,
so i was thinking of wiring all of them up with the d connector and join the connector to the dd's board connector.
so i need to wire all the 32 pionts to the dd connector that is attached to the gc mobo, like you did

you used IDE wire? im using that too.

for the memcard port, my one is gone, i'll get a replacement for it from another mobo, so side A's points are removed, so i have to remove the pins from it's side B?

also, about the 12v +/_ from the power board to the dc socket, this needs to be connected, so when you coonect the battery wires where do you connect them to, the dc 12v socket or the power board 12v socket?um, at what time do you livestream your worklog?
because on your livetream, it's offline?

is there a specific time that you live stream?

I didn't quite do that, I did this: http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php ... 63#p215963" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Those diagrams are hard to read though, did them in paint like a million years ago. I could re-do them though if it just isn't readable.

Connect them right to the gamecube's power board, not the one that had the fan plugged into it, the one with all the circuitry. The other one is more of an input/switch board, not required for running the GC though. Be aware, though, sometimes the colors on the power board wires do not match up with whether or not they actually are GND/Voltage, always test with your multimeter beforehand.

I generally tend to livestream during the later hours of the day, usually after 6PM EST, but it's not an everyday thing really, just whenever I feel like it or actually have something to work on. :P

so, the imput/switch is only needed for the fan and power switch, not the 12v in. so i'ts small connector 12v i can desolder since it isn't used. okay good, that makes things a lot easier because i was confused with this.
so, the red/black connector that goes from my battery to the power board 12v jack? can be extended with longer red/black wires.

um, so for baterry type, im thinking of li ion,
li ion is better than li po?

because i read on bacteria's website on batteries, that li po is more prone to problems than li ions, even through it is smaller.
also in thinking of a 14.8v, 6600 mah x 4 cells to give me up to 4 hours?
is 6600 mah too much or do i need less mah? like 5000 mah or 4700 mah?

and for the psone screen, i'll ned to regulate the 14.8v to 7.5v for the screen to run everytime and not fry,
so i was thinking of getting a fixed regulator of 7.5v, but killersquirrel told me that it's better to get those adjustable dc step down regs.

so, do i get a fixed regulator(linear) of 7.5v or a adjustable step down reg?

also, for the controller cable, the long black shielding, i don't really need it so i can remove it?
and the av gc cable, where do i cut the wires because it's kinda big and with it's shielding?

are the black shielding really needed?

I suggest asking these in your own worklog and not really here.

nice case work, SS

iv'e been following your worklog on modretro, looking good :)
i heard the leanest news,
sorry about your batteries :(
i hope you can work around it somehow, maybe a new battery to replace your dead one.

stuff like this happens, but thankfully it can be replaced easly.
your gcp build can't be because the parts are hard to find. well if you can find another cube, your good without dd problems.

i noticed that we have opposite colors for cases, mine's gold and yours is silver, cool huh?
