Problem desoldering PS2 Slim Mobo parts

Post by CMTony » Tue Apr 05, 2011 7:51 am

So here i am trying to desolder the controller and mem card slots so i can wire my controller straight to the board like a pro, but for some reason i just can't desolder the joints! i started with a 25w iron and was told that i needed either flux or to step up to 35w. i stepped all the way up to a 60w iron and it STILL didn't melt the solder enough... im not sure if i'm impatient or if i just suck... can anyone offer some advice, noob free tut or anything similar to help a modder out?

Thanks in advance,

<3 Tony

Is it surface mounted or do the leads go straight through the board?

You need a desoldering iron to pull the liquid solder away... you can't just melt it and pull, it hardens to fast.

Get one of these http://www.google.com/products/catalog? ... CEIQ8wIwAg#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; They work pretty good for me ;)
