Canon Camera Batteries

Post by dasmith91 » Sat Jan 29, 2011 1:30 pm

So I was pondering on how to power a game cube, without using RC car batteries that can leak/explode when over charged etc. Something that i could leave in a charger and not worry about.

Checking the batteries in my Canon 550D (LP-E8), I found they're 7.4V and come in anything from 1100mAh to 1350mAh. Would wiring two of these in parallel to get 7.4v, 2400mAh be sufficient enough to power the GC via ShockSlayer's "12v bridged pin" hack?

If not, how could I use these to power the GC properly?

2400mah will run the Gamecube for maybe 1hour 30mins. That's without a screen.

You need at least 11.1v to power the Gamecube if you use the regulator built-in or the external Gamecube regulator. If you use make a custom regulator you can use 7.4v on the 12v line with the first revision Gamecubes.

You need around 4000-5000mAh to have a good amount of runtime.

Lithium Polymere with a pcb and smart charger work perfectly and there is very little chance of leaking/exploding.

Ok so how about this battery?

Is it advisable to buy one with an included PCB or not? And how would I go about charging the battery whilst its inside the GCP?

This may be helpful.

I've heard batteryspace also sells batteries with the PCB already soldered to the batteries, but only if you ask.
