200-230? That's a bit high :?

I have mine around 180, but that's because the disk drive is extremely picky at reading my backups.

I had saved that pic off of the internet years ago and never actually tested it. I was just trying to help.

If thats too high then whats a good value?

There is no "Golden Value". Just keep it between 80-650 and obviously stop tweaking it once it works

If you don't have a modchip there is no reason to alter the pot that much, I think I gave it about 20 more ohms k whatever it was and it now plays all my games fine, to this day, and I adjusted it last summer.

So what makes it read games better/more likely to read, a higher or lower value?
I've never had my GC read a game (it was $8). :(

lower, you're lowering the pot so the laser is stronger. From what I believe, the laser weakens over time and then it can't read GC games properly. Same thing happens to everything else that reads discs.
