NOW WORKING!!! check first post

Also tested it with a 7,4v Battery with 4A and got a running time of 1 hour and 20 minutes. Making my calculation for the 7,4v line correct. So we now have to correct running times for all possile voltages:

14,8v runs on 1400mah (tested by me)
11,1v runs on 2600mah (tested by SS)
7,4v runs on 3000mah (tested by me)

Would be nice if this could be stickied since it's helpfull info

*Stickified*

 Wait... ah, crap, it's not working! NOOOOOOO!

But seriously, awesome. So I guess since the gamecube is more efficient on higher voltages, then there's really no point in using a 5v battery then?

Same amount of watts though. It's not more efficient at higher voltages, it just draws less amps.

So unless you're just trying to use some random rechargables you have lying around, then I guess it's better to just get some good 14.8v lipos.
From anyone's experience, which is better? More voltage > Less Amps or Lower Volatage < More Amps?

It really doesn't matter. In [imaginable] cases where efficiency is 100%, 5v @ 100mAh is the same as 10v @ 50mAh (without regards to the battery's maximum discharge rate). For this application in specific, you can't go wrong with a ~7.5v battery for the (assumed) PSone screen and GameCube regulators.

how right you are skyone

In the end it all depends on what size your portable is gonna be and what kind of battery's you can get.

Just remember that the original regulator is always more efficient than a custom one.

In later cases, true. But even the N64 had an on-board 7805, and we all know how efficient those are. :P

Sorry to bump this but I want to make sure before wasting $100 on batteries.

So I can run 14.8v straight into the Gamecube where the power adapter normally plugs in. And then just let the Gamecube regulator do the work? And then I can use a 7808 with heatsink to power the Psone screen ?

That is indeed correct.
(But you have made a new thread instead of a SUPER BUMP! :P )

Would you like a professional looking custom case for your portable? I may be able to help you. Check out this link:

Not only should this topic be bump but also stickied  Usefull info that everybody asks for. Sadly not everybody looks at older posts for info so they ask questions that are already answered..

Done. Probably not permanent, but at least until we can redo the stickies or get a wiki running.

Just wanted to make a comment on this. The only way to properly test this is with a power supply and not with batteries. With batteries you can't be sure the mA rating is correct to begin with and you don't know at which point they will not provide enough power to continue running the system.

So I tested the gamecube with a regulated power supply.
Note that this was a Revision 2 Gamecube with the built in regulator board and no digital outputs.

At 12v the Gamecube draws an average of 1.5A

So with that info we get.

14.8v will draw 1.2A
11.1v will draw 1.6A
7.4v will draw 2.45A

Which I think is a more scientific way of doing it :)
