So I am making a GCP and I have gotten farther then I thought because I am a total nooby. I know a gamcube portable is not a good choice for your first portable but what the heck. After braking 3 controllers, 3 gamecubes, 1 screen, I think I have learned what to do and what not to do. So lets stop talking and show off some work!!!!!
I have progressed quite a bit for two days...
Here is the part of the case (dont judge me because it says weed on it, I found the case and thought it would work well for a gamecube portable. Its also really big and thick, whatever....)
It's pretty big inside!
and thick...
The case looks much bigger in the pictures. It's 9 inches wide, 5 inches tall, and 2 inches thick. I know... ITS HUGE!!!
The GCP is going to have ps2 joysticks instead of the original gamecube joysticks.
As you can see in the picture, there is a ps2 joystick, the ony reason its on there right now is because I had a little glue trouble and can"t seem to get the joystick off.
Oh well...
Anyways...
I cut the gamecube board to of course make it smaller.
compared to its original size...
A semi slimmed disk drive..
Well thats all for now.
I have a screen coming in the mail in about 3 to 7 days.
All I need to get are two controllers.
I am also not done with the case, I still have a lot of work to do on and I am also going to spray paint it too.
The batteries are coming in the mail too in about a week.
I estimate to be done with this portable in about 3 weeks to a month.
To be continued...........

I think your going to need to insulate the case to prevent shorts with the mobo, but other then that good luck!

Dont worry, I was going to put some type of cloth on the inside so that wont happen and so I wont get shocked.
Thanks for not judging the case because it says WEED in big letters.

Lol.
Anyway, instead of cloth which might be thick you could try sheets of Mylar. Like from a Mylar balloon that you can get pretty much anyway. It’s extremely thin, flexible and is a great insulator. And you don’t need nearly that much thermal compound on those chips. You really ought to scrape all that off and just apply a little bit.

Otherwise it looks good.

I don't know if paint conducts electricity but you can probably get away just by painting the inside of the case
Re: GAMECUBE PORTABLE WORKLOG!!!!! WITH PICS!!!!!
I second that. A nice thick coat of paint. But be sure to sand the coating off the metal if there is any.dslitemodder wrote:I don't know if paint conducts electricity but you can probably get away just by painting the inside of the case

Bad news guys . I tried cutting the motherboard a little more this morning and killed the board. Oh well . So what that means is that this project is abanded for about a week or so, until I get another gamecube. In about 2 weeks, I should have all the suplies and should be able to finish the project. THIS PROJECT IS GETTING FINISHED NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS!!!!!
Re: GAMECUBE PORTABLE WORKLOG!!!!! WITH PICS!!!!!

Well, It was where I removed one of the ports on the top right of the board. Bad choice.
But this work log will be up and at em in no time!!!!

There's a rubberized undercoating that comes in a spray can. I know for sure Ace carries it in their automotive department. It runs $6-$7 a can, and is far better than paint for insulating purposes. I would strongly recommend using it, as it's not too expensive, easy to use, and works great.
Bummer to hear about the GC, though.

Thanks everyone for the support. Well there is good news!!!
I just ordered a gamecube and 2 controllers on ebay, so I should have everything I need by next week!
They I will finish my portable and show it off!!! Well, hopefully I won't brake the controllers and gamecube or that's another $30 down the drain.
