I think it is great what they did.
plays just like a classic megaman game for the NES, I thought it was kinda weird how they made it so you cant slide or charge up though :?

I only have
three bots left to beat in the first 8
jewel man, lava guy, and plug man

This is the BEST $10 I have spent on a video game in a long ass time. This game is probably the hardest new game I have come across in a long time. After playing it my thumbs actually hurt and it reminded me of the NES days of yore.

Level design is awesome and the presentation really brings back the Mega Man 2 and 3 feel.

New (less then 2 years) Games I have beaten recently on the hardest modes if applicable.

GOW
Bioshock
Metriod Prime 3
HL series
Super Mario Galaxy
Excite Truck
Portal
RE:4 Wii
Army of Two
Mario Cart Wii (cleared all tracks)
Super Smash Bros Brawl (everything)
Halo 3
Resistance
Expert in Rockband and GH on Guitar

So yah I call myself a accomplished gamer yet I haven't cleared a single stage on Mega Man 9. I got to Concrete Man but he kicked my ass. This game is epic hard.

MM9 = Hardest MM game evar!

I hope MM10 brings back the power shot and the slide. Some of these jumps are unpossible!

ProtoMan is a playable character and has the power shot and slide, he'll set you back $2, though.

As awesome as the 8-bit return is, I'm a total geek and actually wanna see how they connect the original and X series' convoluted storylines. Does Zero really kill everyone, as is commonly suggested? Is Megaman the same as Megaman X, or no? What became of Wily, Bass, Rush, Proto, etc.? The world may never know... :(

I noticed that at least one obstacle is actually an exact copy of a obstacle from an earlier game, only with more dangers.

The bubble stage of Jewel Man is identical to the bubble stage of Dive Man from MM5 with more spikes, and drill bird robots coming in from the sides. But the bubble pattern is the same. (I'm not that much of a MM expert - I just was inspired to play the old MM games to see how much easier they were. Not much, it turns out. Years of FPS have made me soft!)

the first level of wily's place is so hard  there is one part where lava pretty much covers the screen and the only way I could figure to get up was to use rush coil, but the timing is such a pain in the ass :P

Wow, what a fun game. This is my favorite game of the year. Just awesome.
Didn't beat it yet, as I've only played for about a half hour to see what all the stages were like. Lots of cool stages, music, just great.

From what I've seen, it's a little difficult, but not sure if it's the hardest.

You are right - it was Splash Woman, not Jewel Man.

And actually, Mega Man 1 was the hardest one, IMHO, because there was no save feature, no password feature, no charge shot, no slide, no Rush.... So you had to beat it all in one sitting. That was hard.

There's a trade off though - according to IGN reviews, he take double damage, and you can't use the store - so it's even harder with Protoman.
