So what games DO run in 1080p?

Includes PS2, Xbox 1, GameCube (but not the Phantom Game Console)

I know GT5 does.. I mean TRUE 1080p. My friend said that COD4 and GTA4 run in 1080p too, but i thought it wasn't true.. just an upscale.

Actually it seems that a better question is: are there ANY games that run in true 1080p?

I say this because it seems that not even GT5:Prologue runs in true 1080p.

O SHI-

Is dat sum Jones?

Also what is the big deal with HD stuff? I saw a HD TV and a normal TV in a store playing a movie that was in HD and I couldn't notice a difference.

Sereously I don't see that much of a difference. :?

You may proceed to ignore me now.

The fact is i can't tell a difference between 720p and 1080p on anything smaller then 48". Tho once you get into DLP screens you can really tell the difference.

1080p requires so much horse power I doubt any modern console can output it natively.

Well, I'm running a 1080i projector. The image is 100' I know it can't run 1080p, but I was just curious.

It really depends on the movie. Were they showing a DVD on both standard def and HD? It is difficult to tell much difference between the two in many cases, even when using an upconverting DVD player.

If they were showing either an HD DVD or a Blu-ray on the HD set and a regular DVD on the standard def set there should have been a noticeable difference. To me there is a pretty huge leap in the level of detail that can be seen in the HD formats. That said, I don't think it is the sort of leap in technology that will cause people to convert in massive amounts any time soon. It will take a long, long time for DVD to be pushed to the side...

I have a 60" HDTV so that probably helps make the differences that much more apparent. :)

Agreed, Jones. There is a huge difference, but I honestly cannot see Blu-ray catching on any time soon. It costs a lot more than DVD (both the players and the movies), and in this world of YouTube and digital cable that squeezes 100 channels in the space where 30 should go, does the general public really care about HD?

For normal TV shows (news, game shows, sit coms), standard def is fine. HD is nice for movies and games, though. Depending on price drops, we might get a PS3 this Christmas (mainly as a blu ray player that happens to play games). Our poor HDTV doesn't get fed anything over 480p, but when my friend brought his 360 over (running at 1080i, max for the TV), it was beautiful.

We've been through this.

God of War III, WipEout HD and GT5: Prologue are 1080p

On 360, some NBA game and Virtua Tennis 3 are 1080p

COD4 and GTA4 are 720p

As mentioned earlier in the thread GT5:Prologue is not true 1080p...

Do you watch TV? Every other comercial exemplefies the breakthroughs of HD television. If its not a cable TV comercial, its one for satellite. If its not satellite, its a comercial for a new model, or a movie that's, through all the wonders of modern science, now on Blu-Ray HD (they tag that HD in the end there so people get extra excited). Of course the general public cares about HD, whether the general public can afford a new, expensive TV is another story.

Not really. The only current shows I watch are The Office, Mythbusters and South Park, all of which I usually download or watch online as opposed to watch on live TV. I probably watch live TV once a week, if that (also helps that I don't have cable). So I don't see too many commercials. But from what I have seen (again, not much), the most I've seen in ads about HD is adding "and Blu-Ray high def!" to commercials for movies coming out on DVD. Although, the only stuff I watch with commercials is just the news or whatever my parents happen to be watching.

Ooo didn't know that. GTA4 on PS3 is 1140x640, but absolutely no-one cares because perhaps people have stopped worrying about needless stuff like that and learned to actually enjoy games.
