Original Xbox Power Supply Unit Modification

Post by amurphy345 » Thu Apr 24, 2008 4:01 pm

I am trying to construct a xbox mini. For a while, i considered trying to create an external power supply. But then, i saw a version of an xbox mini where the person modified the xbox psu to be inside the case. Is there an alternative to the stock psu? Is there any way to slim it down? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am unsure if there is a PSU for the xbox that is smaller than the included one. mini ATX may be a little shorter but it is a lot taller. A few suggestions you can try in your project though.

1. Try replacing the hard drive with a IDE to USB converter. I haven't heard of anyone doing this but removing a 3.5 inch drive cuts down significantly on size. Come to think of it, you wouldnt need the molex power connector anymore either and would only need the power to the Mobo (presuming you are using the stock DVD).

2. Manually wire your RCA or other A/V inputs so that the original AV pack isnt required. Adds a more custom feel to it.

If that would work, why not put a 16 gig or an 8 gig flash drive in there?
