Semi-Dead Wii Remote

Post by extremesonic » Thu Apr 26, 2007 10:13 pm

My brother and his friend were playing Wii Play(the target shooting), when all of a sudden the 1 remote starts acting funny. The pointer was moving erratically, and would randomly disappear. I tried new batteries but that didn't do anything. I later tried the remote in the sensor bar sensitivity option in the Wii menu.

If the remote was aimed left, both little dots showed up, and even near upper right. Once you went near the bottom right the left little dot would disappear. If you kept going further down, both dots would be gone.

This is really strange as I used the exact same remote my self about 3 hours before that and it worked fine. And my brother and his friend were also playing Wii play just fine, and then it just went nuts. They didn't drop it or anything because I was there when the remote was working fine, and then started responding weird, it just happened out of the blue.

Any ideas?

Do you have another remote to test it with? This happened to me once, most likely due to the lighting in the area you're playing in (IR LEDs might freak out at the sun).

Try cleaning your sensor bar, or the wiimote ir transmitter. (You know, the redish/black thing on the controller). Also try re-syncing your wiimote.

You are backwards, sensor bar has the leds in it, the Wiimote has the sensor.
Try new batteries

The other remote works just fine, so its not the sensor bar or lighting. I guess i'll try cleaning and resyncing

If that doesn't work you might want to open the wiimote up and see if the sensor is damaged/bent/disconnected at all.

Well it seems cleaning the sensor, and resyncing the remote made it worse, now i can barely get the pointer on screen. Guess I'll open her up and have a look see.

This may sound kinda stupid but is there anything in between the wiimote and the sensor bar?
Meh, I don't post much.

No its clear sailing. There's nothing new there that wasn't there before when it was working fine.

My motion sensor wasn't working in my wiimote once, opening up and closing it again fixed the problem. Hopefully it's that simple for you. :P

You know Nintendo has really awsome Customer Service. Before Voiding your Warranty why not give them a call? They will gladly replace your wiimote if it is indeed broken.
