Xbox 360 Tilt Sensor Controller Soon Available

Post by Busterblade » Sun Jan 28, 2007 7:57 pm

The Wii first announced motion control in an innovative new controller, and then the PS3 also received a tilt sensor-equipped controller. I don't care if it was "copied" or not, it was a good move. The Xbox 360, however, was a year behind.

Microsoft is having to play catch up by doing such things as releasing a new Xbox 360 model with a 65nm processor, like the PS3's, rather than the outdated 90nm processor currently used by it and the Wii. 65nm processors are more powerful, use less energy, and produce less heat. There is also the rumored Xbox 360 Zephyr, with HDMI 1.3, integrated HD-DVD and wireless, and of course the 65nm processor.

One thing Microsoft has not done is to release a tilt sensor-equipped controller. I find it unlikely that they will unfortunately. So it's a good thing that Adam Thole of adamthole.com has created his own 360 motion controller. It began as a hideously huge circuit board as proof of concept, and was then upgraded to a small chip that goes on back of the controller.

Currently, only one wired prototype controller exists, which is going for around $150 on eBay now. Adam says a wireless version will be released, and he will begin selling the chips to be installed on your existing controllers. A reasonable price is $30-$35, I think, and I will gladly pay that much as soon as these chips become available.

They will also work on Windows PCs. This is a truly astounding mod, comparable to even Ben's 360 laptop IMO. I hope to see this commercialized as an official accessory.

Here's the link to his site with several posts and videos of production and the final product:

And here's the auction:

Is anyone else as excited as I am? Anyone else planning on buying one of chips?
