Post by Turbo Tax 1.0 » Mon Nov 27, 2006 8:30 pm

I was looking for some component cables on the internet and i keep stumbling onto this link http://nfggames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2363&st=0

and it looks like nintendo has people paying ~30$ for just a few extra cables, since it looks like the wii can supply Component video with no assistance unlike the GC

so has anybody here given this a shot, I'm thinking about it but I dont want a big mess just chilling behind my wii, I also need to grab some cables to hack up.

Your best bet is to just order or obtain a standard a/v wii cable to depin. Otherwise you'll just have either pay a rediculous amount of money or wait.

Alright so after fiddling with the A/V cable for a while I just went ahead and made my own. Instead of using the paper clips like the guy did in that post I just repinned a few pins. Here is what I repinned.
*Composite to Y
*cut audio left and right ground pins and repinned them to Pb and Pr.
*took some extra rca cables and soldered the information part of the wire to the Pb and Pr pins.

The only RCA wire that needs a ground is Y(green). Pb(blue) and Pr(red) do not need to be grounded. Neither does audio left and right. This is why I suggested cutting them.

To finish off the mod all you have to do jumper wires 8 and 10. You can either use paper clips or instead of just chopping any ole RCA cables take your old Nintendo A/v multi out cable and depin the pins from the connector. Take a dremel and shave them down so that they are thin enough to work with the Wii connector. If your going to do it this way then make sure you leave a Wii pin out to reference with the one that you are working on. This way you can make use of the RCA wires and not have to worry about the paper clip thing.

I had a lot of trouble figuring out just how to depin the Wii connector and finally figured it out. I know a lot of people were having trouble doing it and worried about breaking the pins so I figured I'd give them a step by step. I was just about to post it on the NFG forums but the site went down so its here first.

I plan on getting another standard Wii cable to make this mod a lot more clean and factory but for now it does its job. To bad I finished this mod just after I finish Twilight Princess. Oh well. Good luck.

yeah, this sounds great :D! For those of you with component TVs, of course :(.....
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Did you bend the end of the paper clips so that they will make contact? I didnt do that at first and for the life of me could not get it to work. At first I tried to insert the paperclips at an angle and when I tried to secure them by stuffing something in there to hold it tight it would lose its angle and lose the connection. I didn't pay any attention to the fact that the guy who originally performed the mod bent the ends of the paper clips. To give you an idea of what mine looked like I made a picture.

You are so close man dont give up!. I don't even have a tv that will do 480P but after I finished the mod and turned on Twilight Princess it was like a brand new game. The picture was so bright and beautiful. It took me like 3 seperate tries to finally finish modding the cable. Previous times I thought damn I just can't get this to work and put the cable back together. Believe me you will get it because your always going to go back to this and NFG page an drool over 480P lol. Good luck.

No doubt they will, as soon as they check this post.
I figured it'd be a link to some awesome hack, and then get that crud on my screen... Why don't spammers learn, that people ignore ads when said ads are completely irrelevent to the topic... <uses a rocket launcher to smear the spammer across 3 sq. acres>

1. Moderators can't ban things/people.

2. Why did you click the link in the first place? :P

3. It's a spambot. Duh. <img src="http://www.skytroniks.com/images/databa ... es/wtf.gif">

you said that only Y needs a ground connection out of all 5 cables, but this is not necessarily true...

if all 5 cables are going to the same piece of equipment, like your TV, then you only need to run ground along one of the cables.

but, if your video lines go to your tv and your audio lines go to a receiver or something like that. well. you might find yourself without audio.
