Help! Psx portable controller malfunction

Hey guys, i'm working on a portable psx, the big gray block, and i'm having an issue when wiring my controller directly to the contoller port, either my wires arent in the right places or i've got a short or something, because all my buttons are wired up perfectly, i've tested several times, but when i power on the playstation after wiring directly to the controller port, none of my buttons work. When i reverse the order of the wires soldered to the board, i press the analog button on the controller, and the red analog led merely blinks quickly, then nothing else happens. No buttons do anything, even though they are all soldered in the right positions. Got any tips or suggestions? I'm kinda at a stand still until i can solve this issue.
