Bush's N64p Commission

Post by Bush » Mon May 30, 2011 10:34 pm

I was recently commissioned and decided to start a WIP thread. I started with the heatsink for whatever reason. I cut it from the stock heat fin, and applied silicone thermal compound to the chips. I did temp tests with a meat thermometer (feel free to laugh). I played for 1.5 hours straight, with Mario Party and Donkey Kong 64. It appears it will work perfectly.

My average temp was around 119 degrees F, and the peak was 122 degrees F. Now, cart slot relocation time.

EDIT: the board in the first pic is dead, I will not be using that one in the portable.

What can I say, it struck me funny. I had been awake for a full 24 hours prior to making that post, so perhaps I was punchy. To be more relevant, Bush do you have a preferred brand of thermal paste? I'm one of those weirdos who has convinced himself that there is a difference.

Not really, I just grabbed a tube at Radio Shack. I'm sure there is a difference, but this stuff works fine for me. I just got done relocating the cart slot, now its time to test.

Ohh boy, cart slot relocation. I get that this is standard procedure but after a month of fighting with the expansion port on an NES I shudder at the thought of so many pins. Keep up the good work can't wait to see the case.
