Regulator HELP! NOW! PLEASE!

Post by JonathanMC » Tue May 24, 2011 2:41 pm

If I wanted to bring 7.5V up to 12V for an N64P, would this work?
http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/p ... 61175.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It says that it will take 5V up to 12V, but if that doesn't work, then what will???
(I need 12V for the screen.)

Edit: I dont want to try that one because
1. it steps 5V up to 12V, so it would step 7.5V up too much. And it is too sophisticated. Someone help!

Seems like overkill but it should work providing you can solder htssop packages.

What screen are you using that requires 12v? Have you tried running the screen off a lower voltage?

I haven't tried soldering htssop packages, and i would really prefer the simplest regulator possible. The 8" screen i'm using doesnt run on lower voltages.
If anyone has a link to a simple 7.5V to 12V step up regulator, please tell me!!!

You're screen probably just takes the 12V and steps it down with a 7805. More information, perhaps pictures, of the screen you are using would help the issue.

I don't think so, but what if I added a 3.7V battery. 7.5+3.7 equals about 11V which should be enough.
If I had 11V what resistor would I need for the pth08080 (he resistor affects the voltage output.)

I think you can only add up individual cells that way, not entire battery packs.

That didn't make much sense to me...

Its very simple. If the new cells you add to the battery are of different capacity or chemistry then they will discharge at a different rate. You will eventually get to a point where the smallest cell is empty and the other cells are not. I believe that in this case the other batteries can still drive some current through the discharged cell for a while, all the time doing it damage. You can add a cell to a battery as long as its the same as the cells already in the battery. Just add it when they're all at full charge.

Which screen are you using?

Ok, but what if the 3.7V ones had a protection circuit?
The screen i'm using was bought from another modder, but they aren't sure what kind it is.
