I stand corrected! the last i'd read it seemed he had quite a ways to go, care to give a link to the thread?Greg2600 wrote:Ukrainian, and more like a few weeks away Should be quite a show down!Triton wrote:quite the bargain considering right now its the ONLY worthwhile n64 cart emulator out there, i know of 2 others that exist the NEO N64 Myth Cart which is 200$ and can hold one 512mbit game. its an extra 70-90$ if you want increased storage (1024mbit or SD) and its way more basic than the 64drive. there is also a work in progress cart by some russian guy, which might cost less than the 64drive, but is probably nearly a year away from release, and is a lot more simple than 64drive in many regards

get that trashy link out of here. We shall be loyal to marshallh because he is one of ours! :p
lol, the link isnt really "trashy" but it would be disloyal to marshallh. So if you wanna be disloyal, buy from the random guy. If you dont, dont bother clickeing the above link.

Re: Cart emulator progress thread
From what I can tell about the other one, the 'deluxe' version is looking to be about the same price as Marshallh's, and it takes longer to load each game (10-20 seconds, as I understand), AND they can't blay Banjo Tooie or Jetforce Jemeni (spelling?). They also have a sketchy SD interface or something - not paying a $2000/year royalty is understandable, but I don't know if they're still using that interface or what's happening there. Either way, CF is faster, and I want to support marshallh. Not bashing on the other guy, but I want to support Marshallh. I'm sure they're both put a LOT of work into their respective products.

Re: Cart emulator progress thread
The 64Drive is more powerful and has a greater degree of functionality and flexibility. the old saying "you get what you pay for" is relevant in this case. the totally bare bones(no cic chip or jtag cable for updating the emulators software included) version of krikzz cart will be around a hundred dollars, the full version wont be much cheaper than the 64Drive.

Re: Cart emulator progress thread
I think Marshalls cart will have some extras for developers while the Everdrive64 will be more for the "just-wanna-play-all-the-games"-type. And of course both carts will be able to play Banjo Tooie and Jetforce Gemini.
I will probably buy both in addition to my Z64 and 64 Myth.
Also I'm extremly exited about the dev features of marshalls cart, because when I try to "code" something for the N64 using the really easy and basic libdragon it doesn't work most of the time. Mostly because I can't code.
So anything that helps me figuring out what the hell I did wrong this time will be highly appreciated

I wouldn't necessarily call krikzz a "random" guy since he made flash carts for Gamegear, Genesis, Super Nintendo, and Master System so far. Determining on how long of the gap between the releases of both items, krikzz may have the upper hand at first being a "reliable" name in flash carts, that is, people who bought other carts from krikzz will probably wait until that one is released before making their decision between the two. No disrespect to Marshall at all, as a lot of us have seen all his awesome work and 3what he can accomplish; I'm just speaking in a general sense here.dsv101 wrote:get that trashy link out of here. I have another concern. I noticed the 64drive page states in small print that there's no warranty. Product sold as is. So, if anything goes wrong, I'm out of 199 dollars? I mean, Retrozone does have warranty for the Powerpak (5 years! how's that, way better than Nintendo or Sony). How would Marshall handle a design failure that makes half of his units stop working in 5 months? "Tough luck guys"?

Dude, I'm glad you never had an electronic that broke because of manufacture or parts flaws, but you should know that kind of stuff happens. If not, no electronics would come with a warranty. What if a specific batch of components Marshall uses to build the units are defective? what if only a couple out of 100? What if, even with his great knowledge (not being sarcastic here) of electronics, Marshall makes a mistake that's not evident right now, but will be in 5 months?Basement_Modder wrote:Electronics this simple don't break that way unless they're mistreated. Remember the PS2 laser problem? The Sony laptop battery problem? The XBOX360 RROD? I was struggling to find a Nintendo example, but I found it: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/100249/nint ... wii-straps" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
In fact, it's super easy to find examples of electronics flaws, just google "ELECTRONIC BRAND recalls"

etc, etc. Ah, I see you said "electronics this simple"... how do you measure simplicity? Are sd cards and headphones simple enough for you?

Final note: I'm not trying to be disrespectful, I just want the complete info to make a purchase decision, purchase that, even if it's 100% worth it, is not trivial (I don't have 200 dollars in pocket change).

Will the 64drive be offered only in a grey case?

Re: Cart emulator progress thread
The thing you have to keep in mind is Marshall is NOT a major manufacture, he isnt having a production run of these build or anything like that. he had the PCBs printed and is assembling everything by hand. expecting there to be a warranty on something like that is like expecting there to be a warranty on a portable. I'm sure he will reply to this question soon enough however.buttheadrulesagain wrote:Dude, I'm glad you never had an electronic that broke because of manufacture or parts flaws, but you should know that kind of stuff happens. Re: Cart emulator progress thread
That passed through my mind. I know he'll assemble stuff by hand, and I suppose he'll try every unit personally to ensure it works; that's an obvious advantage over big manufacturers. In any case, I think it's not unreasonable to expect a small number of units to be defective, either by Marshall's mistake (unlikely), or by some faulty component (because the components are produced in some factory). It'd be sad to be the guy that gets a 200 dollar brick, it's like a lottery you don't want to win. Also, I know Marshall is not the same as some big company, but even Brian Parker from Retrozone (Powerpak) offers a warranty.Triton wrote:The thing you have to keep in mind is Marshall is NOT a major manufacture, he isnt having a production run of these build or anything like that. he had the PCBs printed and is assembling everything by hand. expecting there to be a warranty on something like that is like expecting there to be a warranty on a portable. At the end, if Marshall choses to stay with a no-warranty policy, it will be up to us to decide if we take the (small) risk or not. It's his product, and our decision to buy.
