Wasn't that for the Gamecube? I might be wrong, but I thought it was.bassmasta wrote:No. 7.4V (two lithium batteries) is fine, IIRC the 12v line is sent to a 5V regulator and to the sound amp, which isn't noticeably worse in quality.Haunted360 wrote:(Forum members, please correct me if I am wrong!
A N64 needs both 12.x volts and 3.3 volts right?
Oh and if your screen has a separate power supply then forget the above info)

It's the same for both, as far as I know.Muniosi wrote:Wasn't that for the Gamecube? I might be wrong, but I thought it was.

If you look on your power brick for the n64, there's actually a diagram that shows which pins get which voltages and GND.

Does this wiring look right? I base my wiring off this person's post http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php ... 78#p242678" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
After looking at it then at the pins I think I figured out which pins are which.

I can't find where in that topic you found the diagram, but from what I remember/know off hand, that looks right.

Okay thanks. Just a few more things would this be okay for a battery pack? http://www.batteryspace.com/Polymer-Li- ... h-PCB.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and would this one be okay as a charger? http://www.batteryspace.com/smartcharge ... isted.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Re: Wondering how I can do a mod to my n64 to run off batteries
Both look just fine, though I think you might be able to do it for cheaper if you buy 2 3.7v 5000mAh cells, then use a protection circuit. Your choice, though.

Re: Wondering how I can do a mod to my n64 to run off batteries
Well I decided to choose a slimmer battery: http://www.batteryspace.com/customizedp ... arate.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; since I'm going to reuse the parts I might as well get a battery that won't take up so much room.
Heres what I'm using:
1. Li-Ion Battery: 7.4V 5Ah http://www.batteryspace.com/customizedp ... arate.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
2. Smart charger: http://www.batteryspace.com/smartcharge ... isted.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
3. pth08000
4. 2.2k resistor http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2062344" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
5. 100uF capacitor http://www.amazon.com/100uF-10V-Mini-Ra ... B0002ZP864" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
6. Power Switch http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2062489" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also can you check if this diagram looks correct:

God, haunted, don't post without proper knowledge.
He can just wire DIRECTLY to the pin's solder pads AFTER the SMT crap.
The grey ribbon is useless.
Also, you need 7v-35v for the 12v line, and 2.9v(in some cases 3.0)-3.4v on the 3.3v line.
BTW- your diagram is fine, but you only need to connect 3.3v and GND to one of the pins that its drawn to. They're all bridged, anyway.

He's saying your diagram is good and you're good to go - I'm not so sure. Will that battery fit inside the power converter box the n64 uses?

I checked and it won't. theres not enough room for the wires that attach to the plug that the connects to the n64.

1) Why can't he solder directly to the PADS (seen in his photo with the grey line going to it) on the PLUG? Please explain so I can learn Basement...
2) Yea, thats why I said solder to the pins above but explain WHY he cant? Do you bypass the SMT's or let the battery's power go normally through them??

Re: Wondering how I can do a mod to my n64 to run off batteries
I have a question, could I take the circuit board off that plug and just wire to the metal pins coming off it? By doing this I would have enough room for the wires to fit in the old n64 power brick.
