Yes but then it is more risky. I mean, if one of them snaps off then it may arc and fry your protection circuit for the batteries...
It will also be quite tricky...

What are the odds of a pin actually snapping off if it's in a casing such as the old power brick?

Still what are the odds of the wires snapping when they are fastened down in the power brick?

I dunno but it depends on how well you can solder them to the pins and what wire you go with...
Anyway, good luck with it!

Also one more thing how many hours do you think I can get off this thing? Since it's only powering the n64 and no the screen.

I don't know how much Ah would be drawn from the battery to the n64.

Heres pictures of the plug that I'm going to be wiring to that will plug into the n64 (the plug came off of the power brick):
I then looked at the power brick for which pins get power and just matched it up with the back of the plug. Can someone who has built a portable before confirm that this will work?

All the parts seem fine, however I didn't check the wiring.
Order the parts.
Also, reading back, I am very surprised by Haunted360... I thought he recently made a portable n64 but he appears to have very little knowledge about this...
Those batteries you linked to look great.
EDIT: Just looked at your switch. It looks horribly wrong. I will post a diagram for the switch later, but I suggest buying a DP3T switch. I use it for way left is charge/play off mains (use two seperate adapters), middle is off/charge, and right is powered by batteries/no charge

Heres the recent list of parts also I already have the switches though and I just need it for charging and running off batteries. I'll use a regular power brick if I want to run off of wall power. One more thing to add is that the switch in the diagram will be like this: left position charge batteries, right position run off the batteries.

All looks good. I see you chose a DPDT... that just means that you can't play and charge (as I will with two seperate adapters..) So that's all fine, because you probably won't want to do that anyways.
Everything else looks good. Go ahead and buy.

Re: Wondering how I can do a mod to my n64 to run off batteries
Since the order requires a haz mat bag is there another place to get batteries or something to get batteries from (dvd battery as an example but smaller). Now is there a way that I can test the thing once it's put together before I plug it into my n64? Just so I know that it wont fry it?

Test it with a multimeter before hooking it up to your n64.
As for other places for batteries, you can try ebay for similar cells but they will be bigger and less quality.... but cheaper.
I personally bought mine from that site.
