Super Nintendo Half Signal

Hey everyone,

I'm starting (for the third try now) a super nintendo portable. I have a screen that accepts composite and battery input, so the only thing I need to do to the Super Nintendo is get it to run off battery power. We removed the default 7805, we removed the dc power jack, and then we hooked up everything like Ben Heck's book asked....the external regulator hooked up to the battery and the snes. We've done it succesfully before, but this time when we turn on the SNES it shows up as a black screen. The tv or screen isnt getting no signal, just a black screen. The game doesnt appear. What could have gone wrong? I never removed any other part...but is one broken? Thanks!

In Ben's book, the diagram with the 7805 in the SNES section is backwards.
