FIRST P64, NEED HALP!/worklog

hi! im brand new to the forums and need some help.
i've been researching it for a little while now and decided that in stead of a present, i just asked my brother to help/make me a portable n64, he has basic soldering skills, so it shouldent be too terribly difficult, but im just very lost, i know all the things im going to need (for the most part) but once i dissasimble everything im not sure im going to know exactly what to do, so im asking if you more experienced forum-goers will guide me through this, so far this is my list of needed things, please tell me if theirs anything else i'm missing:

Your right he doesn't explain n64s but when I started I got his book and my first portable was n64.
theres a wealth of knowledge in that book. It will give you a good general idea on what you need to do to succeed.

I don't understand why you need IDE ribbon cable and whatever the other wire is, the IDE cables are for the same use.
