My PS1p project

Post by MacTrekkie » Sat Oct 09, 2010 10:54 pm

Figured since I've started two threads on two different forums, I should link them here.

Thread for the screen specifically: http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=40269" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thread for general discussion of the project on Facepunch: http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1011939" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Basically, I found a Zenith PS2 screen in my garage and decided I wanted to play games on the go. So now I'm making a PSOne portable. I'll keep people up to date, etc. This will probably be a simple project compared to some of the things people make these days, but I will be proud of it. Plus, it gets me a free Science Fair project for school. So yeah, discuss and tips and all that good stuff. This will be a SLOW project! I am not fantastic at electronics, so it will take me a while to puzzle this out. All I really need now is to buy a PSOne or SCPH-9000 series on the cheap and cut it up. I might even just use the original case if I get the 9k, that would save a lot of work if I get clever with it.

OKAY! I got the layout done. Basically. Obviously, this image is bad, and I will NOT use MS Paint to do the rest of my diagrams. I just wanted to get my idea down. Once I get the console I can get a scaled image done. But yes, I will be using the original 9000 series case as the case for my portable, with the insides completely rearranged. I will also use an innovative(in my opinion) dual battery system, where I use two Infolithiums that I can switch between when one dies. Nothing fancy, just a toggle switch and a low battery indicator.

No no no no and NO.

How do you expect to mount the screen on the UNDERSIDE of a console PCB where it can easily fry?

Besides that, there is like 7mm of room from the ABS plastic, to the PCB.

Good luck!

It's good practice to use an insulating layer between the screen and the rest of the portable. It's the most fragile part of a portable, and is one of the more expensive parts too.

Yes that is true, but it will be all tightly packed :?

What about the analogue sticks, they have the metal casing for the pivot points.

It is going to be a hard task - but again,

Good luck. And I hope to see it finished.

Cutting out a piece from an anti-static works really well. They're thin and strong.

I'm going to be completely rearranging the insides of the case. The only similarities between the original arrangement and mine will be the power button, eject button, and disk drive.
