there is no way you can use an ipod screen if you arent like a serious hacker and badass.

Re: My first portable
Exactly My Point. The psone screen is already for use. although there is probably some screen the same size as an ipod screen that would work with the board.

Re: My first portable
Well, had you actually read my posts, you would have discovered that I wasn't planning on using an iPod screen. It was merely used as a size comparison, because it's diagonal is very close to 3.5", which is the diagonal of the screen i will be using.
As for powering the 3.3v line with 3v - on the bacteria forums, they said not to go lower than 3.2, minimum. A jumper pack will run with lower, but not an expansion pack, which you need for a few games - not too many, so I may just end up using the jumper pack anyway, but I certainly don't want to fry anything. We'll see what happens.
And gamax, what's up with The Randomly captalizing Certain words with no Rhyme or reason to Do so?

Re: My first portable
Yes, that was a rather interesting paragraph.
Question:
If I already have a jumper pack, and not an expansion pack, and I don't want to pay the $10 it would take to get an expansion pack, is it worth it to just go with the jumper? I mean, how many games is the expansion pack REALLY necessary for?

It is required for Majora's Mask, Donkey Kong 64, and the single-player mode of Perfect Dark. It also makes a bunch of other games look prettier.Snipeye wrote:Question:

Re: My first portable
it varies regarding the voltage, it's bs that the expansion pack requires 3.3v and the jumper pak only needs/will run off 3.2.Snipeye wrote:Well, had you actually read my posts, you would have discovered that I wasn't planning on using an iPod screen. the rule of thumb is to get as close to 3.3 as you can, some have had trouble running an n64 with 3.25v.

jumper pak is generally fine however if you wanted an expansion pak without the added height you could always desolder the n64's Ram chips and remplace them with either 2 4MB ones or one 8MB one (depending on your board revision) and then just add the jumper pak for the same effect

Re: My first portable
i ran my n64 with 3.2v with an expansion and it worked fine.
Re: My first portable
these batteries are 7.4v and they will work. they can be recharged and used at the same time, they are here http://cgi.http://adf.ly/9RvV" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; its from a dvd player but they work. if you buy the batteries and you need help with them watch this http://adf.ly/9Rve" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; its from revision 3 and it shows you how to step down the voltage from 7.4 to 3.3.
Re: My first portable
I know how to step the voltage down, I was just hoping I could step the voltage down a little bit more and still get away with it. Thanks, though - I've got my batteries and chargers already.
Re: My first portable
Alright, starting to have a problem:
I wired everything up, using a 2 pairs of 7.4v camcorder batteries, putting out 7.4v, the PTW0808WAH or wtf it is (I can NEVER remember that name) is putting out 3.3v just as it should, but when I flip the switch on the n64 to turn it on, the ptw0808 thing starts clicking, I can hear it, and the LED on the n64 doesn't light up. When the clicking starts, it no longer puts out 3.3v - any clue what's going on?

Re: My first portable
make sure you wired them in a parallel not a series.
Re: My first portable
It is wired 100% correctly. According to Bacteria, it's a faulty pth080000, he's had a couple, I just had bad luck. I ordered another, odds are that this one won't be faulty.
