I cut up and hooked up a controller to the snes mini, which originally had worked, but after I relocated the cart slot (which worked - yay!), the controller doesn't work anymore (no input allowed). Also (when playing super mario world, for example), the game starts up and goes straight to the file selection menu (as if start had been pressed).
I checked the connections between the controller itself and am pretty sure they're fine. I think the trouble is the connection to the snes mini. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

Re: Controller not working after cart relocation
Update: Further testing shows that all buttons are being held at logic low voltage (ground) i.e. they're being depressed.
This holds for all games I've tested and while the controller is unplugged.
Also, using a DMM to compare the two controller port inputs shows that the data input on controller 1 is grounded, while the data input on controller 2 is at 5V.
This explains the behavior, but I'm not sure how to fix it. Here's a pic without the controller connected if it helps.

What is the diode-check/continuity reading from data and latch to GND when everything is off and disconnected?

The same exact thing happened to me, it took me hours to figure it out, I have to use an official controller, with a certain type of wire, I thought it was weird.
