Finally started on a portable
Found out that a 9000 series PS1 mobo fits nicely into a Gamegear case so Trying it atm.
All was going well until I started working on the power. I know it takes 3.3v and 7.2v according to Metrolf
http://forums.benheck.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=37804" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Copied is diagram except used a PTH08080WAS to provide the 3.3v which seems to work. Hooked it all up though but it doesn't seem to power the system properly. The disc spins up, but more slowly than usual and no video/audio is outputted. Doubt its the 7.2v being the problem as I'm using a 3 amp variable power supply so I was wondering, does anyone know how many amps the 3.3v line needs?
Pics... tomorrow
Edit: Power now works, not too sure how though

Good day, nice to see u got started with a new portable;)
There is just a little something that I didnt post in my worklog that might be important to make a note of. Im not sure if the pth did it or whatever, but that ps1 mobo i used (in the diagram) stopped working in the middle of the build, but luckily I got a psONE along with the screen (both ntsc so no compatability problems which i think i would have got with a pal ps1 and ntsc screen).
Ergo, the board in my psONEp is a psONE mobo, not the ps1 mobo.
That means that there is no previous records of that diagram i drew actually working for very long, but in theory it definitely should!

Wow, totally forgot about this, got shelved before I started back at Uni. No time for it until next summer now :'(
Tested the wiring diagram out the fun way and it lasted a fair few hours so I assume its correct.

Grahh, fried the playstation. Should win one off eBay tomorrow so I'm not too sad.
Epoxied in a NES d-pad in to replace the gamegear's and added the start and select button from a PSone controller. I'll post pics when I've finished bondoing it.

Not too sure how i fried the playstation, tried powering it up after leaving it for a few months. All I got on the screen was static and it wouldn't read discs. Expecting a new one in the post any day now so no great loss.
Edit:Postman arrived with my new PS1 just as I posted this
