Radioshack used to sell a desoldering iron. It's discontinued now, but it's worth a look at your local Radioshack.

I used this to remove the useless expansion slot from my NES, and it worked great. I've used a solder sucker before, and it's pretty cumbersome. But you can use it. Otherwise, I've heard good things about a solder braid - haven't tried it myself though.
Edit: Looks like the Radioshack desoldering iron isn't discontinued yet, it's out of stock on their website but available at my local stores. If your local stores don't have one left, PM me and I'll look around to see if I can find one near me.

If you have a snes mobo you don't mind hurting, you can use a torch. haha. I used this method to get the cart slot off of a fried snes mobo, works pretty good.

lol I'm kinda trying not to fry it. Good tip though

A desolder iron or one o' dem solder suckers works really well for big crap like a cart slot. Soldering braid would work too, but you might need quite a bit of it. Using soldering braid is also fairly straight foreword: get soldering iron hot, put braid over solder joint (or whatever), and the solder braid should suck up the solder

I used that method on my NES mobo, worked very well, but you have to be very careful not to apply too much heat. For my vintage radios that have PCBs, I recently started using solder braid (the only viable option for removing solder from old-style PCBs) when I replace the capacitors, and it works well.Pkmnjunky7 wrote:If you have a snes mobo you don't mind hurting, you can use a torch. haha. I hate braid. Pump/iron combos are the way to go. They work wonders. Braid just isn't as efficient as I like.

Re: Desoldering SNES Cart Slot
Braid is great if you've got huge traces covered in solder, though. But that's not exactly the case here.
