Does your psone screen darken when you plug in the av out?

yes it does, and the video on the tv looks dark as well

I'm pretty sure that it can't output both at the same time properly without some sort of booster on the line. If you want to switch between the portable and AV out, add a switch that switches between connecting the LCD ground to the system, and AV ground to the system.
