I need soldering help!

Post by popfan97 » Sun Feb 28, 2010 5:46 pm

I want to put a Gamecube joystick into a N64 controller, and I've been told I need to solder. Would just getting this just get the job done:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... nSession=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I don't really want to do ANYTHING besides this, so I guess I could use a crappy one. Also, how do I solder? I'm a dummy, so I need to be thoroughly explained to. I need to know how to desolder the c-stick and solder it to a N64 controller.

Yes, that would work, as it includes the solder too! Here is a tutorial on how to solder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_NU2ruzyc4

Yeh, it's a great video for people that don't know how to solder yet. That is where I learned about soldering, is that video.

Wow! Thanks so much! That really helped! I just need to wait for my N64 controller to come in and I'm ready to go! :D

I would need a desoldering braid though to disconnect the c-stick right?

the c stick on the gamecube controller is on a seperate board so, no. You don't need desolder braid.
This place is fun.

BUT LOOKY HERE!
Spoiler:

It's connected by those four bundled wires! How could I disconnect it without desoldering?!

Btw. This post is really a must see for everyone here! It REALLY gets interesting at the 8th post! The REAL interesting part is that it's on a 1ST PARTY CONTROLLER! Too bad I don't understand a thing they're saying:

Really though, how would I disconnect that wire without desoldering it? Which would require a desoldering braid.

I dunno, how do you get something done without doing anything? which would require time and money.

Sorry. It's just that ToastBucket replied earlier that I didn't have to use a desoldering braid to desolder. oh well.

To take out the joystick you just heat up the solder and lift the wire off. You don't need to take the wires out of the board. Aka no desolder braid needed

Wait. Which board are you talking about? Do I need to take the wire from the c-stick board or the main board? So do I need to have the c-stick board alone without a wire coming from it? Then I would need wire...
