cndowning wrote:Hey Hail, what do you use to actually apply the Hardset Filler? I'm using Popsicle sticks and I'm not getting what you would call a "smooth" result. The stuff hardens so quickly that it bonds to the stick and just makes a mess...suggestions?
I get the bondo "spatula" looking things from Wal-Mart. Then I use a pair of scissors to cut them down to popsicle stick width. This makes them very flexible. Plus the filler doesn't bond with it. Also make sure your filler is slightly warm . Cold filler is hard to spread. I keep mine under a table lap for a while to warm it up.

Hey, maybe if you keep it up you'll have as many N64 portables as SS.

But seriously, good job.

It was a very bad week last week. One year ago on the 20th when my dad died of cancer. I spent Thursday-Sunday with my mom helping her through it. Sorry will be back on track this weekend.

Thanks for the support guys. :)

Well despite a severe cold I got a bit accomplished with the board.

Cart slot re-located. Expansion Pack re-located. All jacks removed.

Next up is the cart slot mounting, controller wiring , and case painting.

Moving right along.

Why did you relocate the cart slot from the back? Wouldn't it be easier to just relocate from the front?
This place is fun.

Very good question. I like it when people pay attention.

When I mount the cart slot to the mainboard , the bottom of the cart slot sits right on the board right behind where the cart slot originally went.

Then when you slide in the cart it has less than 1/3mm clearance between it and the mainboard.

So if I had a bunch of wires there the cart wouldn't slide in.

You can sort of see it here on my Kamikaze.

It actually is more difficult than you might imagine to get all this stuff in the case with an internal cart slot. I guess that is why most people do an external cart slot. :P

Progress is my middle name. Well actually it's David but that doesn't sound as good.

Cart slot mounted to board :

Board mounted in case and cart slot hole cut :

All jacks (power/charge/AV/Headphones) cut and checked for installation :

Next up is switch installation and external controller pack installation.
Then speaker holes drilled.

Waiting on directions from buyer for memory card slot.

Peace out my hommies

looking good, hail david raizer! (if that is your real name)
I thought it would be a kamikaze clone, why not do the same controller pak style thing?

Buyer wanted internal hard-wired memory, but I don't have room to do it I don't think and it is 32 more micro-soldered wires that is actually harder than the expansion pack re-location. :x

So I am checking to see if I can do it like the Kamikaze or just forgo a memory slot and he can just use the external first person controller when he wants to save a game that requires it.

Yea don't worry too much about the internal hard wired memory card hail, if you can make it work great but if not just forgo the built in memory and don't bother with including the memory card slot on the back of the unit like the original kamikaze 64. I'll just use an external controller for the games that require a memory stick.
