Something I wanted to try.

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Something I wanted to try.

Post by Generation Me » Fri Jan 22, 2010 11:26 pm

I'm new to modding, im 14 years old and wanted to start at an early age. I know a few basic things, but I always wanted to try making a Nintendo 64 "portable". However, I wanted to make one with an emulator instead, as somewhere to start. Any help on how to start this would be appreciated. Thanks!

Currently there are no n64 clones that you can mod into a portable. You have to use an original n64.

Well if you talking about making some sort of PC system portable and able to emulate N64 games, then I assure you this would be much harder than making a regular N64p. The N64 is a difficult system to emulate and in order to have the hardware necessary, it would probably be a little large for a handheld. I have thought of this too, but it's just not as practical and easy to do as a portable. Not that an N64p is a piece of cake by any means

so basically, you want to use a real cartridge and emulation?

I'm not sure if the snega2usb has n64 support, but if it does, that might be what your looking for.

Yea I never really thought it was that possible, at least not yet. The closest you could get would be to put one on a PSP.

And be able to play only a handful of the N64 games at full speed and with bad sound ? Doesn't sound like a viable option to me.

I've been following the progress of pandora for a LONG time... It will never be released as far as I'm concerned. Plus on their wiki they state that the potential for great N64 emulation is unlikely and that it will probably have some of the same problems as the psp (no sound etc.).

There is an N64 emulator in the works and it appears to be doing quite well so far. Incidentally, I have one preordered, they say it will be out soon but they've been saying that for the past year now.

Very true. Well, I've been eagerly awaiting its release and, depending on how they turn out, I will seriously consider purchasing one. I am a little confused at how they will accommodate the N64 control scheme (6 buttons etc.) but we will see.

Left nub is the thumbstick, right nub is the c-buttons, left trigger , right trigger, A and B . Z button can be assigned to whatever floats your boat.

Which one? The PC one is called Project 64. The PSP one used to be called Daedalus, I think it may have changed. The Pandora one probably hasn't been released, as not many people could use it.
