Well looks like it's time to start my 3rd n64 portable. Now even smaller then before. And planned to be better then moonlight 64 and starlight 64 combined. IMHO I've come quite a way in the past year from where I started. My first post Thank you hammerstein for slapping me in the face and yelling "SNAP OUT OF IT!"
Anyway, here are the main features:
n64 with expansion pak
low led switching between green and red
direct rcp wiring
external memory pak slot
vga docking stating (actually project box will be smaller this time)
vacuum formed case
3.5" screen
3 hour battery live (if I can fit the extra batteries in it will be 6 hours)
portrait style case (like gameboy)
full set of controls

**UPDATE** 01/16/10
Here's the first update. I'm going to buy a new screen that has contrast control on it instead, rather then going around bridging resistors on my screen and possibly frying it. I have other uses for the screen in the video. I also may make a guide for the audio amp later.

Got some work last night finished, everything is going smoothly.

**UPDATE** 01/28/10
MO UPDATES! I got some work done on the front half of the case. Buttons holes are in with the d-pad. I don't have the joystick hole in or the start button yet.

Memory slot cover spaced and glued in

The pak goes about a quarter inch in. Really helps the rumble pak from wiggling.

**UPDATE** 01/31/10
I give you the magic of the drill press.

The 4 has the two holes under it filled in, I went through them by accident. It says 64 boy.
Got the docking station done too, works well. Green led lights up when it's connected.
1st and 2nd player ports.
3rd and 4th player ports.
These are the ports for analog video, the 3 ports aren't colored because the colored ones would fall apart if they were cut that small. You can tell which is which because the video is next to s video, and the audio ports are left and right, indicating left and right audio channels. And yes I do right important stuff to remember on my hands. :dahroll:
Uses a 15 pin vga header.
3rd and 4th player insides
All the other ports are on the other half.
Authentic minnesotan dirt used to weigh it down. :awesome:
Also works as a mace for self defense.

Did you decided to purchase the screen from business-sun?? I wasn't aware that it had contrast control as well! Well I guess that's even better

The video was made before I saw that. I haven't bought it but I'm going to buy it later.

This is screen #3, right? I might experiment with it a bit when it gets here.
Re: 64 BOY wip *UPDATE 01/16/10*
Well, don't get your hopes up. Basically, if it wasn't built for it it won't be as easy as installing a potentiometer. I'm gonna inspect the chips, read some datasheets (if the chip numbers aren't grinded off) and if everything else fails, try tampering with the raw signal before it enters the screen. There's definitely a way to do this, I'm just hoping that it won't be too hard. Incidentally, I'm not sure I will have the patiencen to do it the hard way.

Wait there was a signal amplifier I saw on an rgb mod guide for the n64. It increased the brightness since rgb was darker, though it probably only works with rgb. I'm sure there's a brightness booster for composite.

Alright, I have some goals for this portable.
1. use as little hot glue as possible. sorry shockslayer
2. finish it by mgc and bring it there.
Heat has been my number one enemy in the construction of n64p's. And hot glue is not the best answer. The new one will have some sort of exhaust and as little hot glue as possible.
As an update I'm going to be buying a new screen that has adjustable contrast, I'm going to use my current one as just a test screen.

Have you ever considered a height/width tradeoff in terms of heat sinks? i.e. make them big but flat?

No, they should be pretty thing and short. I got solid copper ones and they will be right next to ventilation holes so heat should not be a problem.
Re: 64 BOY wip *UPDATE 01/23/10*
that case looks epic
maybe you should rcp wire that n64 before getting too far into this just in case you fail.

That's what I plan to do. But actually I checked and I could just cut off the top of the board like a ton of people have been doing and it would barely fit. But with the expansion pak relocation it probably won't fit

Nice case! I like the guide you posted in the Reference section as well.
