RADICA Cartridge

Post by Azrael » Fri Nov 20, 2009 3:29 pm

Hello together,

as you all know there are different postings concerning hacking the RADICA, e.g. adding a cartridge port. I did the same with success. But what about the removed ROM? So I thought of building a RADICA cartridge to use the ROM again. I took an old honey bee converter and used its board.

And it works great :P

That looks like some pretty epic wiring you got there. Nice job!

Wow, that's pretty amazing. I read somewhere that it was possible, but I hadn't seen it done.

Could you post a schematic of what you did here?

Hello together,
thanx a lot. I just took the standard schematic for the RADICA hack:

First I soldered wires on the ROM, then fixed the ROM to the board (doublesided tapes and a plastic shim) and finally soldered all wires like in the schematic. At the very end I took the honey bee case to cover the board again. So it looks like the old honey bee converter but contains the soldered RADICA ROM. It was quite simple and just took a few hours of work. The advantage is that I can now use my old genesis cartridges AND the RADICA ROM-games with the hacked RADICA board.

Best regards,
Azrael

hmm, glad I wasn't the only person thinking that, I just never even had the money to buy a radica. . . so I never got to try.

Hello hackmodford,
that's a good question, I don't know. Unfortunately my old gegesis doesn't work anymore but I'd love to try the cartridge on a real genesis.

@ttsgeb: a RADICA isn't that expensive. I bought my one on ebay for 5 Euro.

Best regards,
Azrael
