Japanese/European game versions on US dreamcast

Post by Thornwillow » Thu May 05, 2005 5:12 pm

Is there a way to get any japanese/European version of the dreamcast game on the US Dreamcast, because i wont to get Shenmue 2 for my dreamcast but the only thing is, it was only released in Japan and Europe... I dont have an XBox at the moment... You can get the game off www.ebay.com and www.estarland.com

if you purchase some kind of mod chip or boot loader your US Dreamcast will be able to play games from other countries.

http://www.lik-sang.com/list.php?nav=over&category=42&

Check out that page for various products which will allow you to play these games. Lik-Sang also sells imported games, but they may not have what you're looking for so if not just get the game off ebay like you said. Hope this helps.

Don't bother with a modchip, they're a waste of money. All you need is a boot disc. The Utopia boot cd will do fine.

I think you can, I have never really seen a genuine "import" memory card. They all seem alike to me. Even on lik-sang, all the mem cards are american as well except for like 1 I think. I think you'll be fine, and np for helping you.

I highly doubt Shenmue 3 will be made, given the loss Sega received from the first two.

No DC accessories have any region information, so you can use a Japanese pad with a European VMU on a US DC if you want to.

Games, well, ebay is the best really ;)

Lik Sang, play asia, ncsx, and toysnjoys all stock import games iirc though.

I kind of agree with you on Shenmue 3 wont ever come, i heard it will come out, but not soon due to money issues, but i doubt it will come out, if it does, it will be far in the future...

One exception to that: DC lightguns (at least US and Jap) do have region information, and a gun from Japan won't work on some US Dreamcast lightgun games.

Interesting - if it was Europe vs US/Japan I'd be guessing that it was to do with 50/60hz issues, do you know why there's an incompatibility between US and Japan?
