Can cartridge kill your console?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

Can cartridge kill your console?

Well, the answer is Yes. A buddy just brought me 6 carts, really nice games, and he just said that they are not working. The contacts were dirty and I cleaned them as usual. They are working now, but hey, joypad is not responding. Cleaned them again, inserted cart several times but still same thing. After inserting my working carts I noticed that they are not working now. Got a spare console and everything is ok with my carts inserted.
What happened here!? I didn`t know that this is possible. Maybe it`s a new SNES virus! :)

I think it is merely a coincidence or they were bad games. Not broken, but corrupted somehow that ruined your SNES.
