Umm wow.

Let's see. Probably you could use some 2500maH camcorder batteries. Should power it and a screen for a few hours and shouldn't cost you more than $35 or so.

And for a case you could use the ZN-40 or AG85 from http://www.polycase.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Of course you would have to LED mod a psone screen if you are using that. If you are using a 3.5" screen it would fit just fine.

It depends how big your case is. For my portables,I use AA battery holders.

Yes but for a few dollars more you can get the 4700mAh Li-Po's in my guide with the charger and Pcb and they will last twice as long and be a lot smaller.

For a portable, I wouldn't use the Genesis 2. As it is small, and compatible with 32X and SegaCD, you wont be using those on a portable.
I would recommend the Genesis 3 (Radica Genesis) as it is smaller, and a bit easier to work with. The easiest I must say would be a clone, but whatever suits you.
Projects at the moment:
The FrizNES (Portable NES) *ON HOLD, Need a new NES*
